I’m almost 44 and I never really thought much about my retirement plan until very recently. Right from the very beginning of my life money was never really something my parents handled particularly well and that habit very quickly transferred onto me. When I was in my 20s I struggled with severe anxiety and depression, and that continued all the way until my early 30s. I was trying to complete schooling and just generally trying to cope with the struggles of life and my finances. It’s my fault though, because even thinking about retirement had always been a privileged person’s thing. I still think of it that way but now it’s more of a health thing, in that if you’re healthy enough to experience retirement age, then that’s great. But it’s scary not to be able to have a financial saving grace at that age too.
I’m going to jump right into it, follow my journey as a navigate saving for retirement, which I still have a little over 20 years to do. It sounds like a lot but I’m way behind those who were wise enough to start in their 20s. I still have hope though!
